I’m Duane Schaffer and I’m the old man in GK. I’ve slammed numerous vehicles over the years including several mini trucks, a Dodge Caravan, a Nissan Quest and even a ’63 VW Notchback. I’m old enough to have bought a ’91 EF Civic brand new. That didn’t stay stock very long either.
I picked up my infamous green ’72 Datsun 510 wagon back in 2002. I flew up to Washington state and drove it home bone stock. I’ve been into old school Japanese ever since. I’ve done a ton to it over the years. I put the ragtop in, raised the driveshaft tunnel and pie cut the rear fender arches to fit the 14×8 Riversides. Currently it has an air ride system with the compressor and tank hidden in vintage luggage. This car is a blast to drive but I’m working up some refresh plans for this coming winter. A true project, this one will never be complete.

Along with my wagon, I recently stumbled upon a barn find Datsun 620 80s show truck that I’m in the process of updating and modifying. Since I grew up in the ’80s, I have been obsessing about that era of mini truck. My future plans call for a custom interior, tilt bed and period correct sound system.
I’ve been getting a lot of use out of my 87 Toyota dually flat bed that I’ve brought down to a more reasonable height. ’94 front brakes and hubs allow for deeper front wheel options. 4×4 fenders, matched patina and a cleaned up interior round out this super fun to drive work truck.
